What’s holding you back?

Don’t let your past shackle you from your future.

I had a friend who believed he had ruined his life by a choice he had made years earlier. He had chosen not to pursue a certain woman that was in his life at that time. She ended up marrying someone else and having a family. That always haunted him. It held him back for the 15 years that I knew him. I don’t know if he made a mistake by not going after her or not, but I do know that he made a bigger mistake by not moving on. It became a form of mental prison for him. Our conversations would always end up the same way, he would always bring it (the mistake) up and that would take up the rest of our conversation. That defined his life. We haven’t spoken for almost 10 years, I just hope he was able to finally let go of the past so he could give himself a future.

What’s holding you back? A past relationship, missed opportunities, heath issues, past failures or maybe even past successes.

Isaiah 43:18 Give no thought to the things which are past; let the early times go out of your minds.
See, I am doing a new thing; now it is starting; will you not take note of it? I will even make a way in the waste land, and rivers in the dry country.

God says let go, the past is behind you, good or bad. Look for the new things He’s doing. He wants to make those dry areas flourish with new life.

Pray and examine your life, if you are holding on to the past, ask God to to change your way of thinking. He wants you to have a future and a hope. If we hold onto the past we not only are stuck there, but we also stop ourselves from growing right now. At the same time limiting the ways God can use us in the future.

By not being tied down to the past, this will help us to see and plan for a future. This will also help us to be open to the new ways God wants to use us and help us to continue to paint the Masterpiece we were created to paint.
